Did Alex Ovechkin score? Nope. However, he did register two lovely assists, which gave him 700 helpers in his career and put him into yet another elite club of players to have 700 goals and 700 assists.
…but no, no goals.
Plus: There was a lot to like about the Capitals’ play all around tonight, but there was something really special about seeing Jakub Vrana, on his first shot in his first game back with the Capitals, scoring the game’s first goal – 1316 days after the last time he scored at home as a Capital. A hell of a shot and a hell of a statement on his return.
Minus: Dylan Strome had an almost-hat trick tonight…as in a trio of grade A chances for a goal, none of which found the back of the net. Not a knock on Dylan, of course, as much as it is a fist shake in the direction of the hockey gods.
Our Three Stars:
*** Logan Thompson (24 saves)
** Jakub Vrana (1 goal)
* Alex Ovechkin (2 assists)
