Capitals vs. Canadiens Recap: Mistakes, Helmets Curse Caps in 6-2 Loss

Ce n’était pas bon.

Welp, that winning streak was nice while it lasted…probably would have expected that to be the case, with the Caps having to fly into Montreal late last night and face a rested – and younger – Habs team, with the backup in net. Still, we’ve seen them get wins in those situations before and the schedule should not be an excuse for whatever transpired at the Bell Centre tonight.

Plus: Nice to see the captain snap his goalless drought and score against the team he loves to score against…and then do it again.

Minus: You never want to give up the first goal of the game. This is particularly true when you’re the road team. It’s definitely true when facing a raucous building like Bell Centre. And you especially don’t want to do so on the first shot of the game, 30 seconds after the opening faceoff. Alas.

(Honorable mention…burn the blue helmets.)

Caps Player of the Game: Not much to like about this game overall so we’ll give it to Alex Ovechkin for a two-goal performance, extending his run as the greatest goal-scorer of all time.
