After a scoreless first period and a half, a David Pastrnak snap shot from far out snuck past a screened Logan Thompson to put the Boston Bruins ahead in the Washington Capitals’ season opener. A Tom Wilson tally tied things up for DC late in the third, for all but 38 seconds as Boston’s superstar would find Elias Lindholm on the power play. The Bruins would hold onto that lead for the rest of the game, as the Caps begin the 2025-26 season in the loss column.
Plus: Washington generally carried play throughout the game, dominating most possession metrics and putting up 36 shots on goal.
Minus: It’s a lot easier to do that when you’re on the power play as often as they were tonight, but they went 0/5 on their opportunities in the first two periods. They generated some good looks on the man advantage, but not breaking through left the door open for Boston to take over.
Star of the Game: I’ll give this one to Tom Wilson who got on the scoresheet tonight with his game-tying goal and threw out several crunching hits throughout the night.
