Plus: The Caps may have struggled to score this year overall, but you wouldn’t know it by their last few games – and tonight was the third-consecutive game in which they not only scored four goals but got those goals from throughout the lineup.
Minus: It’s less of an issue on a team level since his ‘mates are starting to provide offense, but…man, seeing Alex Ovechkin without a goal in 10 straight games for just the second time in his career is rough.
Key Moment: T.J. Oshie lowers the boom, leading to the go-ahead goal by Dylan Strome.
Caps Player of the Game: Lots of solid performances in this one, but we’ll give it to the entire fourth line of Beck Malenstyn, Nic Dowd, and Nicolas AubĂ©-Kubel for chipping in with two scrappy, beautiful goals – including the eventual game-winner – and just an all-around great game for the trio as a whole.
Honorable mention goes to Joel Edmundson for picking up his first point as a Capital!
Final Thoughts: The Caps continue to be surprisingly strong on the second half of back-to-back games, moving to 4-0 this season with tonight’s victory. Nothing flashy about this one, but another good all-around team effort to pick up the win – especially in a game that could have easily been a letdown after a huge home win over a division rival.
Next up, a couple of days off before heading up I-95 to Philadelphia for the first of three more away from DC.
