Capitals vs Avalanche Recap: Sans Ovi, Caps Can’t Crack Georgiev in 2-1 Loss

Did Ovechkin Score?

Plus: Not to be outdone by the guy on the other side, Logan Thompson had several fantastic saves throughout the night that kept the Capitals in this one. Would also like to give an honorable mention to Pierre-Luc Dubois, who’s been snakebitten this season before being able to score Washington’s only goal of the night.

Minus: Offensively, the team hit a lull in the second period after getting the better of Colorado in the first. They mustered up an xG share of 21.89%, unable to add any insurance from the 1-0 lead they entered the second with.

Key Moment: With time winding down in the second period, Connor McMichael found himself open on two breakaways in less than a minute, and was bested by Avalanche goalie Alexandar Georgiev on both occasions. That sequence kept a goal off the board for the Caps that would’ve loomed large as the Avs would add the game-winning goal in the third.
