The Washington Capitals and the Detroit Red Wings hit the ice at Little Caesar’s Arena this afternoon to complete the second half of a back-to-back home-and-home. Yesterday decidedly did not go Washington’s way, but today featured a Caps team that looked like they were fully present and aware. That earned them the opportunity to take at least one point back home, but Detroit snagged the second point with an OTGWG from Mo Seider.
Plus: After a very poor start yesterday, the Capitals looked much better at the beginning of this game. They got on the board first courtesy of Ethen Frank, and they dominated the first 20 minutes of game play. Today’s first period was a very solid recovery after yesterday’s lackluster performance.
Minus: While the first period was excellent for the Capitals, the second was…less so. The Red Wings came out of the locker room after the first intermission clearly on a mission, and the second frame was all them. They pushed hard and scored twice in two minutes, including once on the power play, to take a one-goal lead into the third.
Caps Player of the Game: Ethen Frank have yourself a day! He recorded his second two-goal game of the season (and his career) with goals in the first and third periods. His third period tally tied things up at two goals apiece and helped ensure his team went back to DC with at least one point.
