Plus: The Washington Capitals have been struggling on special teams as of late, but not tonight! They went 1-for-5 on the power play, and the penalty kill came up big tonight and kept Carolina’s power play off the board despite five chances.

Minus: The Capitals probably could have tallied a few more goals and run up the score a bit, but Freddie Andersen was incredible in net for the Hurricanes tonight. Andersen did leave the game, however, towards the end of the third period.

Caps Player of the Game: There are a few options for this honor tonight, including Logan Thompson for a stellar night in net and Jakob Chychrun for scoring a PPG for his 100th career goal and taking on some extra penalty killing. However, we’ll give this honor to Connor McMichael for a few things that aren’t reflected on the scoresheet. First, he drew the penalty that led to Chychrun’s power play tally. Not long after that, he made an incredible goal line save when the puck squirted past Thompson and the netminder lost track of it to keep the Caps’ lead at two.
