The Washington Capitals just keep finding ways to win games, don’t they? Last night was their 18th comeback win of the season, including a whopping five when trailing after 40 minutes. The Caps scored twice in the third period, one from Lars Eller to tie it and one from Jakob Chychrun to seal the deal. Connor McMichael also found the back of the net, scoring his 19th of the season (a new career high) in just 54 games. However, it was none other than Alex Ovechkin who got the scoring started for Washington with the 879th goal of his career. When the Great 8 scores, it’s only fair that we take a look at another step on his journey to history.
Matt Roy won’t get an assist on the goal but he got it started with a great defensive play to force the puck off Travis Konecny’s stick. Ovechkin picked it up and fed a stretch pass up the ice to Dylan Strome, who showed an incredible amount of patience at the blue line to wait for his teammates to catch up. After reinforcements arrived, Strome flipped the puck back to a speeding Martin Fehervary. Fehervary then made an absolutely ridiculous pass to Ovechkin at the edge of the right faceoff circle. It was timed so perfectly that Ovi didn’t have to break his stride before picking the corner over Ivan Fedotov’s right shoulder.

With this goal against Fedotov, Alex Ovechkin has now scored on an astonishing 180 goalies throughout his career. Welcome to The List™, Ivan…
Honorable mention: Matvei Michkov attempted to score his third tally of the game with a Michigan goal, but Charlie Lindgren was locked in and made the save. A Michkov hatty would have shifted momentum in Philadelphia’s favor big time, so this stop was crucial.
