Wednesday night, the Caps had a bit of a stumble, letting a game against a tired Maple Leafs squad slip through their fingers (and leading to the most pissed-off version of Spencer Carbery we’ve seen to date). With a brisk practice under their belts before hitting the road, the Caps now face a new challenge: the Colorado Avalanche, who have seemingly bounced back from their early-season doldrums and injury woes to rattle off wins in four of their last six games. The Caps will be looking to kick off what will be a very tough stretch in the schedule with a strong game in Denver.

The Lars Eller Era 2.0 begins tonight, as #20 suits up for the Caps once more – ironically, against the team they traded him to at the deadline a couple of seasons ago. Otherwise it’s likely we’ll see the same squad, with Charlie Lindgren back between the pipes:
Ovechkin – Strome – Protas
McMichael – Dubois – Wilson
Mangiapane – Eller – Vrana
Duhaime – Dowd – Raddysh
Chychrun – Carlson
Sandin – Roy
Fehervary – van Riemsdyk
Lindgren

On this date in 1974: The Caps were off, getting some rest before heading to Pittsburgh and getting trounced 8-1 the following evening…good times.
