The Key Stat: Martin Fehérváry led Washington’s defensemen in hits with 139 this season, which was good for third-best on the team behind Tom Wilson (233) and Brandon Duhaime (165). Fehérváry also had 150 blocks in 81 games this season, the highest single-season total of his career and second on the team to Trevor van Riemsdyk’s 151 in 82 games. Those stats combined speak to the physicality of his game, which is always impressive especially considering that he’s not exactly a giant out there on the ice.

The Good: In addition to solid defense, Martin Fehérváry stepped up his offensive game this season—he hit 20 assists for the first time in his career, and he had 25 total points for his first 20+ points season. Despite a slight decrease in his average ice time per game (down from 19:38 to 19:00), he continued to hone his playmaking skills this year. This is actually a trend that appeared to begin last year, so to see it continue into this season is encouraging for his development.

The Bad: The worst part about Martin Fehérváry’s season was that it was over before the rest of the team’s. On April 22, the Capitals announced that Fehérváry had sustained a meniscus injury in Washington’s April 15th game on Long Island and that he would miss the rest of the playoffs after undergoing a surgery to repair it. It was clear from the moment he was out of the lineup just how much the Capitals rely on Fehérváry. His style of play is by no means flashy or elite, but his steady presence on the blueline acts like an anchor for the rest of the team.

The Video: Re-live all five of Fehérváry’s goals from this season with this fun trip down (recent) memory lane.

The Discussion: After a full season with this blueline in Washington, who would you like to see Fehérváry skate with for the majority of next year? Do you think his offensive production will take a dip next season? Do you want to see his hit total go back up next year? Has Fehérváry hit his ceiling? Finally, what would it take for you to give Fehérváry a 10 next season?

The Vote: Rate Martin Fehérváry below on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best) based on his performance relative to his potential and your expectations for the season – so if he had the best year you could have imagined him having, give him a 10; if he more or less played as you expected he would, give him a 5 or a 6; if he had the worst year you could have imagined him having, give him a 1.

How would you rate Martin Fehérváry's 2024-25 season? (Ratings will be revealed after all Rink Wraps have been completed.)
