…the Caps’ net power play goal total last season (calculated by subtracting the number of shorthanded goals allowed from the number of power play goals scored). The Caps scored 38 power play goals on 153 opportunities last season, good for the League’s third-best power play percentage at 24.8%… but those pesky shorthanded goals put their net power play percentage at just 19.6%, ninth-best.

In fact, no one gave up more shorthanded goals than the Caps’ eight last year, and their rate of .14 shorthanded goals per game was the third-highest in the team’s last 15 seasons.
