The Key Stat:

Mantha made a huge splash when he first joined the Capitals. He scored a goal in his first four games with his new team, being the first player in Capitals history to do it. It was difficult for him to find the back of the net after that but he certainly started off hot with the boys in red.

The Good:

Mantha ranked first in the following stats among skaters that played 200 5v5 Adjusted minutes for the Capitals (stats at per 60 and provided Natural Stat Trick): 57.54 Shot Attempts%, 59.72 Expected Goals%, 61.20 Scoring Chances%, and 65.25 High Danger Chances%. The big, skilled forward was hands down the Capitals best player once he joined the team. Usually new players at the deadline take time to mesh with their new team but Mantha was instantly impactful.

The Bad:

For how great he played, outside the first four games for the Capitals, Mantha scored zero goals and had just five assists for the rest of the regular season and playoffs, which spanned 15 games. It wasn’t really his fault though, during the regular season, with him on the ice, his teammates mustered all of a 7.05sh%, which was second worst among the Capitals (Richard Panik 6.85sh%). In the playoffs, it was a measly 5.66sh%. If he had poor possession stats it would make sense, but he was very strong in the offensive zone at creating scoring chances and nothing would go in. That is just insanely lucky.
