The Noon Number: Shorthanded Success

1 – Number of power play goals given up by the Capitals’ penalty kill over the last six games, the late third-period tally by the Rangers on 3/28 the lone strike over that span. The Caps have killed off 16 of their last 17 times shorthanded, including their last 10 straight (and have a shorthanded goal of their own in that time, as well).

Some of that success is likely due to shot suppression while on the penalty kill. The Caps’ PK unit has ceded an average of just one shot and two shot attempts per time shorthanded, with 17 shots/34 shot attempts allowed in those 17 times shorthanded.
