The Noon Number: Ranger Danger

0 – The number of power play goals scored by the Capitals against the Rangers so far this season, with five games between the two teams in the books. The Caps have gone a man to the good 16 times in their five games against the Rangers – which is actually above their season-long per-game rate of drawing penalties (2.53) – and have come up empty on all 16 chances.

One potential issue? The lack of shots getting through to the net. The Caps have the best CF% on the power play of any East Division team against the Rangers, and have fired 40 shots toward the Rangers’ goalies in their 16 power play opportunities… but have only registered an actual shot on goal on 15 of those attempts. That’s less than a single shot per power play – and that’s not going to cut it.
