Of the 33 pairs meeting the time-on-ice cutoff, Dmitry Orlov and Nick Jensen have the lowest xGA rate of the lot, while Trevor van Riemsdyk and Justin Schultz are fifth in xGF rate. And, because you’re curious, the Caps’ nominal top pair of John Carlson and Martin Fehervary has an xGF% of 49.0 percent.

And how has reality reflected these expectations? The Caps have outscored opponents 9-1 (90%) with Orlov and Jensen on the ice at fives, 5-4 (56%) with TvR and Schultz out there, and 4-3 (57%) when Carlson and Fehervary are on.
