Capitals Sign Craig Anderson

The Capitals have signed veteran goaltender Craig Anderson to a one-year $700,000 contract. The team placed him on waivers at noon today and, provided he clears, will be assigned to the Capitals’ taxi squad tomorrow. This move comes less than half an hour after GM Brian MacLellan announced Washington’s opening night roster for tomorrow’s game in Buffalo and the initial taxi squad for the season..

Anderson joined the team on a PTO on December 27, soon after Henrik Lundqvist announced that he would not be playing this season due to a heart condition that required open heart surgery. Anderson, who has 648 games of NHL experience under his belt, will be a solid resource for Washington’s young goalie tandem as well as a reliable option to turn to if necessary during this condensed season.
