What can you say about the Capitals’ penalty kill in the second period that hasn’t already been said about Fort Knox or a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier?

The PK unit killed three consecutive Carolina power plays in the middle frame. THEN, Washington struck TWICE, with Alex Ovechkin providing beautiful primary assists on both.

The first, Ovi found Nick Backstrom on a 2-on-1, and Backstrom slung the biscuit home to make it 2-0. The second, Ovechkin won a footrace with Dougie Hamilton to a loose puck, then turned and found Brett Connolly who struck true and found the back of the net.

It’s 3-0 Capitals after two periods.
