8 – Number of consecutive games in which the Capitals have scored a goal in the first period, a season-high streak.
While the Caps have had a decent amount of success overall in the opening frame – their 79 first-period tallies rank fourth in the League – they’ve struggled to get the game’s first goal, having done so in just about 50% of their games this season (37 times in 73 games).
That hasn’t been the case during this recent streak, however; six of their eight goals in the first period have also been the game’s first goal, with four of those goals coming in the opening five minutes of the game.
