The Noon Number: International House of Points

6 – Number of active players who currently hold the title of leading scorer for their respective countries, with Alex Ovechkin becoming the latest – and obviously the highest-scoring of the group – when he moved into first place among Russian players last night with point #1,180. Ovechkin passed legend and former teammate Sergei Fedorov with his assist on T.J. Oshie’s opening goal against the Canucks.

Ovechkin joins Thomas Vanek (Austria), Nathan Walker (Australia), Anze Kopitar (Slovenia), Frans Nielsen (Denmark) and Mats Zuccarello (Norway) as the other active leading scorers by country. That number goes up to eight if you include birth countries, as Leo Komarov is the highest-scoring player born in Estonia (although he plays internationally for Finland) and Luca Sbisa holds the title for Italy (Switzerland).
