Capitals @ Kings Second Period Thread

New, comments

On a late-night puck drop out on the west coast, the Caps woke up to go to the lead after one period.

NHL: Washington Capitals at Los Angeles Kings Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The Caps fended off a penalty kill early courtesy of some nice stick-work by Matt Niskanen on the goal line, then Alex Ovechkin went to work from his office and gave Washington a 1-0 lead on the powerplay. With an assist on the goal, John Carlson recorded the 300th of his career, becoming only the third Capitals defenseman to reach that plateau joining Calle Johansson and Scott Stevens in that rarified air. Brett Connolly recorded a tally just 20 seconds later to give the good guys a 2-0 lead over the Kings heading into the first break.

This way to the second period...
