The Noon Number: Close Calls

A look at some narrow margins for the Caps of late

NHL: Colorado Avalanche at Washington Capitals Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

5 - Number of consecutive one-goal games for the Caps, their longest such streak of the season; they’ve gone 3-1-1 in this stretch, with two games going to overtime. Prior to this latest run, the longest they’d gone in one-goal contests this season was a four-game streak from December 14-21 (3-1-0, with two shootout wins).

Of course as far as one-goal game streaks are concerned, this one has a ways to go to match their longest in recent history - an insane 12-game run in the 2015-16 season which took them from February 18 to March 9. They posted an 8-3-1 record in those 12 games, outscoring opponents by the suitably close margin of 32-29.

The Caps are 13-4-7 in one-goal games overall this season for the 11th-best win percentage (.542) in the League.
