If the Capitals want to put this seven-game losing streak in the past, they got out to a good start in this contest.
Nic Dowd scored just a few minutes into the first frame, redirecting a John Carlson point shot down and in to make it 1-0 Washington.
But like bitter bookends, Calgary’s Mikael Backlund answered back in the final minutes of the period, dancing around Jonas Siegenthaler and Braden Holtby to knot it 1-1.
And with under a minute to go, Dmitrij Jaskin got a backhand paddle on a loose puck in the crease, staking the Caps to a 2-1 lead.
