The Noon Number: Killing ‘Em Softly

1 – Maximum number of power-play goals allowed by the Capitals in a game this season, one of just two teams in the entire NHL (along with the Penguins) to have given up no more than one power-play goal per game.

They’ve accomplished this feat despite the fact that they currently lead the League in overall penalty kill time, and are second in total penalties taken with 81. It hasn’t hurt them in the standings, either, with a record of 9-2-1 in the 12 games in which they’ve allowed a power-play goal (including last night) – all contributing to a penalty kill clicking at 85.2%, their highest since 2015-16.

In other words, the Caps may be fond of playing with fire… but they’ve gotten awfully good at working the fire extinguisher.
