The Noon Number: Road Return

6 – Number of times in franchise history that the Capitals have played the first two games of the season on the road, including this year’s season-opening trek to St. Louis and New York. The last time it happened? Exactly 20 years ago, when they started the year with a visit to the Panthers on 10/2/99 (a 4-3 loss) and followed it up with a 3-2 win in Buffalo six days later.

Interestingly enough, while it hasn’t happened all that often over the years, it was the way a brand new Washington Capitals team was officially introduced to the League back in 1974, with road stops against the Rangers (a 6-3 loss) and the North Stars (a 6-0 loss) to kick off the inaugural season.
