The Noon Number: Stifled

22 – Number of shots on goal allowed by the Capitals in last night’s comeback 3-2 OT victory. The Caps spoiled the Blues’ big banner night by shutting down their attack, particularly as the game went on; after being outshot 7-5 (and outscored 2-1) in the opening frame, the Caps allowed the Blues just 15 shots the rest of the game, including zero in overtime.

The last time the Caps allowed 22 shots or fewer and won was back in March of last season, when they beat the Devils 4-1 and gave up just 21 shots. In fact, it’s something they did only twice all of last season (the other time was a win over the Islanders, a 3-1 victory on March 1 in which New York also mustered just 21 shots), and only once the season before – a 6-4 outing in Montreal.
