Capitals vs. Maple Leafs Second Period Thread

Well, it may not be the 4 goals they gave up to the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night, but the Capitals let the Toronto Maple Leafs get off to way too hot a start.

With the Caps on a power play, Toronto’s Kasperi Kapanen tapped in a 2-on-1 at the opposite end for the shorthanded goal, giving the Leafs the early lead.

And five minutes later, Ilya Mikheyev split the Washington defense and left Jonas Siegenthaler in the dust, beating Ilya Samsonov on a half-whiffed shot to put Toronto up 2-0 quickly.

But the Capitals got one back, with a wicked transition that saw John Carlson find Jakub Vrana for the cross-ice one-timer, and it’s 2-1 Toronto after one.

Second period ahead…
