9 - Number of defensemen in Capitals franchise history to be selected to the NHL’s All-Star Game, with John Carlson joining that group this year. Carlson will be making his All-Star debut alongside teammate Braden Holtby (who will be attending his fourth All-Star Game), and is the first Caps’ blueliner to make the cut since Dennis Wideman back in 2012.

Here’s the rest of the club Carlson will be joining when he takes the ice in San Jose at the end of the month:

  • Dennis Wideman (2012)
  • Mike Green (2011)
  • Sergei Gonchar (2001, 2002, 2003
  • Al Iafrate (1993, 1994)
  • Kevin Hatcher (1990, 1991, 1992)
  • Scott Stevens (1985, 1989)
  • Rod Langway (1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987)
  • Robert Picard (1979, 1980)
