Just 12 seconds into the game, Joe Pavelski collected a shot from the point that hit a man and fell at his feet, tossing it past Braden Holtby to make it 1-0.

But the captain Alex Ovechkin answered right back, flipping a beauty of a skill flick into the net from just outside the crease, knotting it at 1-1.

Additional goals from Andre Burakovsky(!), T.J. Oshie(!), and San Jose’s Tomas Hertl put the score of this square dance at 3-2 after just twenty minutes.
