Your savory breakfast of champions links:

  • This championship, this celebration and this team belong to all of us, always. [Rink]
  • As does the utter catharsis that came from triumphing at last over the Waddlebirds. Begone, fowl spirits! [Rink]
  • And the rest of the Caps’ postseason demons. All of them banished in one glorious championship run. [WCP (McFanboy)]
  • ‘Twas breakdown day, traditionally a day of regret and what-might-have-been’ing, but with a championship secured it was a day of quiet satisfaction and closure:
  • An overview as the boys head out for their Summer With Stanley. [Frankovic]
  • Alex Ovechkin arrived with a clean shave and a broad smile. He still can’t believe he’s a Stanley Cup champion, no really it’s unbelievable, and he was in such a jolly good mood he talked with the press for half an hour. [NHL]
  • Barry Trotz discussed his own contract status. It appears that he is amenable to staying, but there are some structural changes he wants made before he can sign. [@Capitals, WaPo, AP, NBCSW]
  • Pending UFA Jay Beagle would love to stay in DC. He knows the Caps have to figure out their big pieces (Carlson, Wilson) before they know what they have left to grab the small pieces. He even says he’ll wait past July 1st if need be. [NoVa Caps]
  • But then there’s this:
  • There will be an “element of business” for pending RFA Tom Wilson this summer. How much, and for how long? [Nova Caps]
  • Michal Kempny is UFA and would also like to stay with the team that made him a Stanley Cup Champion. [NoVa Caps]
  • And it may be time for Philipp Grubauer to spread his wings and fly to another team to be their Number One netminder. The Caps will explore trade options for him. [WaPo]
  • On to injuries - the Caps had a lot of them, especially to fingers:
  • Brooks Orpik nearly lost part of his left pinky after that slash from Eric Haula. [Sporting News, NoVa Caps]
  • Nicklas Backstrom had two fractures in his right index finger after blocking a shot against Pittsburgh. It won’t need surgery, supposedly. [Sporting News]
  • And Andre Burakovsky has been plagued with hand injuries so he is reaching out to CCM for better protective gear. [NoVa Caps]
  • A few leftovers from Tuesday’s championship parade... [NoVa Caps (photos), NBCSW, AP, Vice]
  • ... “This is Alex Ovechkin. Go. Caps. Go.” Ovi had a message for the US Park Police - broadcast directly on their own radio channel. [@USPPNEWS]
  • Congrats to Kuzy and Conno:
  • If Ovi’s Stanley celly wasn‘t already legendary enough, here‘s the thing that makes him immortal. Thanks to DSP‘s cellphone and the proprietor of @OviDancing we have an endless loop of the Caps‘ captain dancing like no one was watching, set to just about ebery song ever recorded. Bliss. [Vice]
  • There are a lot of Patricks on the Stanley Cup, and this year the HHoF will add a new one - Monumental Sports & Entertainment Vice Chairman Dick Patrick.
  • Finally, happy 31st birthday to Joel Rechlicz and happy 26th birthday to Stanley Cup Champion and pending RFA Devante Smith-Pelly, who signed a heck of a lot of autographs yesterday.
