Capitals-Golden Knights: By the Numbers

And so it’s set.

The Stanley Cup Final.

Capitals vs. Golden Knights. Red, white, and blue vs. gold, gray, and white. The longtime contenders getting their first crack at the Cup in two decades vs. the upstart expansion team looking to end literally months of futility with their first championship.

The team George McPhee helped build vs. the team George McPhee built. Braden Holtby vs. Marc-Andre Fleury. The return of Nate Schmidt and Cody Eakin. A city of sin and corruption vs…. well, a city of sin and corruption.

To some extent, the season’s numbers are almost an afterthought for this series – everything is new and different and what happened twice during the 2017-18 regular season likely has no bearing on what will shake out over the next four to seven games. These are two teams on a mission, with different motivations but equal credibility for being where they are, and the past – no matter how far back it goes – matters not.

…but we’re still going to show you those numbers anyway, because it’s what we do! Enjoy.

And now, for getting through all of those (relatively meaningless) numbers… your moment of zen.
