The Noon Number: A Finishing Touch

.273 – The Capitals’ winning percentage since 2008 when their opponent is facing elimination, with just a 6-16 record in those games.

Of course, that total includes a number of Game 7 appearances in which the Caps were also facing elimination; ten of their last 15 playoff series have gone to seven games.

Recent history has been kinder to the Caps when up 3-2, something that has now happened in four-straight first-round series. In two of those three previous series with a 3-2 lead, the Caps went on to win in Game 6, knocking off the Maple Leafs last year at the ACC and taking down the Flyers the year before in Philadelphia; their lone blemish over the last three opening-round scenarios was a Game 6 loss at Nassau Coliseum to the Islanders back in 2015, which they followed up with a Game 7 win two nights later at Verizon Center.

Time to prove John Tortorella wrong.
