The Noon Number: Carlson-of-a-Gun

6 – Assist for John Carlson through two games of the playoffs, tied for the most in franchise history with Joe Juneau (1996) and fellow defenseman Scott Stevens, who did it back in 1984. Those six assists also tie Stevens (1988) and Sylvain Cote (1994) for the most in a single series by a Washington defenseman.

Carlson’s half-dozen helpers mark the first time a Caps blueliner had more than two assists through two post-season games since he had three in 2016. Prior to that, Mike Green (three in 2009) and Sergei Gonchar (three in 2003) are the only other rearguards who have notched more than two this century. In fact, with those six assists, Carlson’s 2018 playoffs already represent the 12th highest total for a Caps defenseman in a single season (Stevens holds the top mark with 11 in 1988).
