The Noon Number: Second Season

A look at what’s next

NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs-Pittsburgh Penguins at Washington Capitals Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

27 - Number of playoff appearances in franchise history for the Washington Capitals... and it’s about to be 28, as the Caps have officially clinched a spot in the postseason as of last night. This will be the fourth-consecutive playoff run under Barry Trotz, and their tenth since Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom arrived in DC.

Over the team’s 43 seasons, the Caps have played a total of 43 playoff series under the guidance of nine different coaches and with a myriad of different players in the roster. One thing connects them all, though - the lack of a Stanley Cup.

Could this be the year that streak ends? The quest begins in less than two weeks. Stay tuned.
