4.85 - Shots-per-game rate for Alex Ovechkin over the course of his career, second-most all time behind only Bobby Hull. The next active player on the list is Jack Eichel, who averages over a shot per game less than Ovechkin with 3.60 a night.
Last night the Caps’ captain registered his 5000th career shot (and added three more for good measure), making him just the ninth player in NHL history to ever hit that mark... and the fastest by a decent clip:
Alex Ovechkin has recorded his 5,000th career shot in his 1,031st career game. That sets the record for the fastest player in NHL to reach 5,000 shots, besting Marcel Dionne's previous record (1,215) by 184 games.
