The Noon Number: Fowl Play

A look at the Caps on the wrong side of a rare comeback

NHL: Anaheim Ducks at Washington Capitals Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

31 - Number of road teams in NHL history to come back from at least four goals down to win, with the 2018-19 Anaheim Ducks becoming the latest to join that club yesterday against the Caps. It was only the 19th time that the win was earned in regulation, the first time that had happened since Colorado came back to defeat Florida 7-5 on March 3, 1999 (and just the fifth time any team had come back from four goals down to win in regulation since 1995-96).

The last time a road team executed such a comeback win in any fashion? Well, that would be your very own Washington Capitals, who erased a four-goal deficit against the Rangers on December 23, 2008 - a 5-4 OT win that became known in Caps’ lore as the Miracle on 33rd Street.
