Brett Connolly (#contractyear) put the Capitals on the board early with a deflection of Jonas Siegenthaler’s wrist shot from the blue line, the Caps’ third line was buzzing, and Pheonix Copley stayed sharp in the crease to hold off the Senators. Mike McKenna made a handful of incredible saves on Burakovsky, Dowd, and Vrana, but Matt Niskanen eventually broke back through to give the Caps a 2-0 lead after 20.
