A look at how the Caps have done shorthanded so far this year

9 - Number of power-play goals given up by the Capitals so far this season, tied for second-most in the League. The Caps have killed off just 23 of the 32 penalties they’ve taken for a penalty kill effectiveness of just 73.7%, which puts them in the bottom third of the NHL in that department, and have given up two power-play goals in three of their first eight games (and two of their last three).

Only twice this year have they killed off all extra-man advantages, going two-for-two in the dominant 7-0 season opener over Boston and three-for-three in the win over Vegas
