6 - Number of days since the last time the Capitals played an actual game, with their last action taking place in Pittsburgh last Thursday. This six-day layoff is the second-longest they’ll experience all season, trailing only the nine days between games that will take place for the All-Star break at the end of January.
October’s schedule in general is pretty spread out, with another four-day break scheduled between Saturday’s game against the Maple Leafs and a visit from the Rangers on 10/17 and another five days off following a four-day Canadian swing towards the end of the month.
They’d be smart to soak up the rest during those stretches, though - once November starts, they’ll play almost every other night through the end of the month, with just two breaks of three or more days between games until December.
