Tonight’s the night! Lots of exciting, semi-exciting, strained, boring, or nauseating things coming down the pike (depending on your point of view)... but the most important piece, of course, will be the reveal of the Vegas Golden Knights roster for the 2017-18 season.

Let’s start with...

How to watch the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft & NHL Awards

When: 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT | Wednesday, June 21
Where: T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas
Broadcast Info: NBCSN, Sportsnet

And just a reminder that anyone in the U.S. with cable can also live stream the event on and the NBC Sports app.

Okay, we know how and when to tune in. Now what?

Well, the evening’s festivities will consist of two main pieces: the expansion draft reveal and the actual awards. So let’s talk about the requirements Vegas GM George McPhee had to meet while building his team through the expansion draft:

2017 NHL Expansion Draft Rules

  • Vegas will take one player — no more, or no less — from each existing team.
  • They must select at least 14 forwards, nine defensemen and three goalies.
  • 20 of the 30 players must be under contract in 2017-18.
  • The cap hit of all players selected in the Expansion Draft must be somewhere between $43.8 million and $73 million.

We’ve talked a little bit about what the Caps have done to maximize their protected players, as well as who was and was not available to be selected. Now all that’s left is to wait and see who actually gets picked... or if there was a deal to be had in order to salvage a key piece. Will Philipp Grubauer be warming the crease in Vegas, or will it be Nate Schmidt taking his beaming smile to the desert?

Time will tell, and it will happen slowly; the Vegas roster is expected to be released in snippets throughout the evening. So... that’s fun.

In between the expansion draft fun will be the actual awards. Need a reminder of who’s up for what? We’ve got you covered!
