A look at top goal scorers doing their thing in playoff overtime

558 - Number of career regular-season goals for Alex Ovechkin without a playoff overtime tally which, perhaps surprisingly, isn’t even close to the top of that list. Per Hockey-Reference, Gordie Howe scored 801 regular-season goals (and another 68 in the post-season) without potting one after regulation during the second-season (in 157 games).

Here’s the list of players with more regular-season goals than Ovechkin, and their overtime goal totals (and keep in mind that the playoffs have expanded over time, so, for example, Joe Sakic has had more opportunities to be so damn clutch...):

Oh, and those asterisks signify Hall of Fame members.

Anyway, with more playoff games going to overtime these days, it’s just a matter of time before Ovechkin breaks that goose egg (and, y’know, sooner rather than later would be nice). After all...
