The Noon Number: Leading by Example

12 – Number of playoff games in which Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom have both scored a goal over the course of their careers, including last night’s Game 3 loss. In those 12 games, the team has put together a record of 7-5 – with all five losses coming in overtime (including the first time it happened back in 2009, a Game 5 OT loss to the Penguins).

That’s a marked difference from their track record when both players score in the regular season, something that has happened 81 times since Backstrom’s NHL debut back in 2007. Their record over those 81 games? An astounding 67-5-9.
