The Noon Number: Burns, Baby, Burns

A look at someone the Caps may want to be wary of tonight

NHL: San Jose Sharks at Washington Capitals Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

27 - Number of goals scored by Brent Burns through 65 games this season. Not only does that lead all NHL defensemen this year (and equal his total from last year), but it’s also the most goals scored by any blueliner since Mike Green picked up 31 with the Caps back in 2008-09 (a feat he accomplished in just 68 games played).

Over the last two seasons, no defenseman has scored more goals than the 54 Burns has accumulated thus far - and he’s a whopping 19 goals ahead of the next guy on the list, Shea Weber.

Even more impressive? He checks in among the League’s top 20 goal-scorers overall since the start of 2015-16... although he’s got a ways to go to catch that guy at #1.
