A look at a rare dry spell for one of the Caps’ most consistent performers

NHL: Washington Capitals at Tampa Bay Lightning Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

7 - Number of consecutive games without a point for Nicklas Backstrom, a career-high drought for the Swedish center. His last point was an assist in the win over the Red Wings back on October 20, with his last goal coming in the blowout loss to Philly two games earlier. His last multi-point game? October 13, a four-point effort against the Devils.

Backstrom has been an insanely consistent point producer over the course of his career; in fact, coming into this season he’d never gone more than five games without a point - and that has happened to him just four times over the past ten seasons (October/November 2007, October 2008, February/March 2011, and most recently in November of 2014).
