Washington Capitals Sign Alex Chiasson to One-Year Deal

The Washington Capitals announced on Wednesday morning that they signed forward Alex Chiasson to a one-year, one-way, $660,000 deal.

Chiasson was brought into training camp on a Professional Try Out (PTO) contract and made the most of his opportunity as (mostly) a bottom-six right wing. He scored a power play goal in the Caps’ preseason game against the Hurricanes on Sept. 23, when he was slotted on a line with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov.

He had 12 goals and 12 assists for the Flames last season, and had the best Corsi Against for all Calgary forwards who played at least five games.

In a corresponding move, Washington waived Chandler Stephenson, who is without a point in 13 career games played with the Caps. Stephenson’s cap hit is $650,000; when he clears waivers or is claimed by another team, Washington will have virtually no salary cap space to work with – less than $30,000.
