A look at how the Caps have fared when having a forty-minute lead

NHL: Washington Capitals at Tampa Bay Lightning Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

.927 - The Capitals’ win percentage under Barry Trotz when leading a game after two periods. Since Trotz took over behind the bench at the start of the 2014-15 season, the Caps have won a League-best 114 games in which they’ve had a lead heading into the third period, losing just nine times overall (only three in regulation, and six in overtime or a shootout including last night).

Last season they were an impressive 41-1-1 in such situations; this year, they’ve already got their first loss after falling in overtime last night, and are 1-0-1 on the year overall when leading after two.
