The Noon Number: Hot to Trotz

A look at the Caps as their coach hits a milestone

2016 NHL Awards - Press Room

200 - Number of regular season games that Barry Trotz has coached for the Washington Capitals.

Over that span, the Caps are first in the NHL in points percentage, first in power play percentage, third in penalty kill percentage and have the League’s best goals against per game average. They also have the sixth-best score-/venue-adjusted five-on-five Corsi-For percentage and second-best five-on-five Goals-For percentage, per Corsica.

In other words, the Caps under Trotz - in aggregate in the regular season (two important caveats) - have been tremendous at five-on-five, on the power play and on the penalty kill... which ain’t too shabby.
