The Noon Number: Jumpin’ January

A look at a pretty successful month for the Caps

.893 - The Capitals’ current points percentage for the month of January, with one game remaining. That’s their highest percentage ever for a full regular-season month (i.e. excluding April/May).

Should they win their last game of the month against the Islanders Tuesday night, they’ll also tie their best win percentage and the most wins in a single month; if they lose in overtime or a shootout, they'll tie their best points percentage in a month (currently held by January 2010, when they went 13-2-0).

The Caps’ goal differential for this month is also tied with that January 2010 mark of +34 - so a win on Tuesday in regulation or overtime establishes a new high for single-month goal differential, as well.
