The Noon Countdown: A Kinder, Gentler Caps Team

A look at how often the Caps threw down last season

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

21 - Number of days remaining until the 2016-17 season. But it's also...

...the number of fighting majors picked up by the Caps last year (19 in the regular season, two in the playoffs), their lowest since the 2012-13 season (16).

It's probably not a coincidence that the number of fights jumped up once Tom Wilson joined the team in 2013-14, but even Wilson held back last year, dropping the gloves just seven times in the regular season - a career low. Wilson was joined by Michael Latta (8), Nate Schmidt (2), Taylor Chorney and Mike Weber (one apiece) as the only Caps to fight in the regular season, with Wilson and T.J. Oshie each adding a fight in the playoffs.
