The Noon Number: At Home on the Road

24 – Number of road wins for the Caps so far this season, tying the mark set by the 2009-10 team (24-10-7) for the most in franchise history. The current year’s squad will have a chance to set a new single-season best with a win tonight in New Jersey (or over the next couple of weeks in Philly, Colorado, Arizona and/or St. Louis).

The Capitals are 24-9-3 on the road this season, ranking first in the NHL in road point percentage (.708) and second in road wins (24) and road points (51). Washington sits one win shy of breaking the franchise record for road wins in a season (2009-10). In addition, Washington has earned a point in 23 of its last 30 road games (20-7-3). The Capitals rank second in the NHL in goals per game (3.06), third in power-play percentage (23.4%), tied for fifth in shots against per game (29.6), seventh in goals against per game (2.53) and tied for seventh in penalty kill percentage (83.2%) on the road this season. Nicklas Backstrom has recorded 37 points (13g, 24a) in 36 games on the road this season, ranking first in the Eastern Conference and tied for fourth in the NHL in road points. Evgeny Kuznetsov has tallied 33 points (10g, 23a) in 36 road games, ranking tied for second in the Eastern Conference and tied for ninth in the NHL in road points. Alex Ovechkin has scored 19 goals on the road this season, ranking tied for second in the NHL in road goals. Braden Holtby ranks second in the NHL in wins (20) on the road.
