The Noon Countdown: A Shortage of Shorties

A look at how often the Caps' goal total went up when down a man

Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

2 - Number of days remaining until the 2016-17 season. But it's also...

...the number of shorthanded goals scored by the Caps last season. That was tied for the fewest in the League with three other teams (Detroit, Columbus and the Rangers), and equals the lowest shorthanded output by a Caps team in the last three decades, matching the total set by the 2001-02 squad.

It's worth noting that both of the shorthanded goals last year were scored by Jason Chimera (including the team's first goal of the season)... who probably won't be pitching in that way this year.
